Woman
To be this woman
is to awaken
awaken
no longer forgetting
nor disappearing
she senses now
touches
feels
and hears
the lies
lies others had fed her starving empty heart

she was taken
possessed
discarded then
left
she was nothing
nothing to them
nothing
then
the day came
when the roar of rage and defiance
erupted so deep from her body
and screamed to the whole of existence ‘never again!’
for many days and nights there were

cold stark Memories
but courage wrapped its way around her
trembling soul
like warmed gold resin
soothing
joining the fragments
she wore her breaks now with dignity
with pride
pride in brushing off the remnants of others’ shame,
a shame that was Never
was Never hers.
