REPORT – YOUR VISION: SUPPORT FOR YOUNG WOMEN IN EAST LOTHIAN
Edinburgh Rape Crisis Centre, Women’s Aid East and Midlothian and YWCA Scotland – The Young Women’s Movement have today (22 November 2022) released a new report about young women in East Lothian’s experiences of unhealthy relationships and sexual assault, and how services can be more supportive.
YWCA Scotland carried out this research alongside a group of women from East Lothian who designed the project, the Young Women’s Research Collective. A survey ran from May – September 2022 and collected a total of 110 complete responses.
31% of survey respondents had been in a relationship with someone who was abusive or harmed them physically or emotionally. 36% of survey respondents had experienced sexual assault.
The report examines the barriers young women in East Lothian face to get support and makes a number of recommendations on how support services can better meet their needs.
We are hopeful that from the findings of this project, services will develop and evolve to better suit the needs of young women in the local community.
